This is by far my favorite Danish movie and is right near the top of my favorite movies all around. The lead actress Julie Zangenberg is the perhaps the single most beautiful girl I have ever seen. While I can’t rate her acting as top notch (she won’t be stealing any movies from Dakota Fanning). She still has a personal quality that keeps you just drawn to her and the movie.
Anyone who has seen enough Danish Cinema knows they don’t really excel at action films. There niche really is children’s films. When you compare the action scenes in this and some of the more top name main stream Danish film such as Den Gode strømer (The good cop) and I Kina spiser de hunde (In china they eat dogs). It holds its own and stands proud.
Most Danish films use a lot hand and steady cam work. This had film has more insight and well planed scenes. From the opening go karts to a touching end. The filming holds true and has a touch of Kubrick. It may lack Kubrick’s trademark wide pans and flowing backgrounds. The former being his trademark. Something about how some of the shots are done can’t help but make me wonder if Hans Wullenweber was influenced by him. But to be fair this is a Danish film while it does excel in the Danish specter. Had the script been to the French men Mathieu Kassovitz and you would have had a whole different movie.
But that’s just my thoughts…
