"Dear me. Today I am seven years old and I'm writing you this letter to help you remember the promises I made when I was 7, and also to remind you of what I want to become..." Thus begins the letter that Margaret, a successful business-woman, receives on her fortieth birthday...
This centres on Margaret (Marceau), a "working girl" who manages her career with steely determination. But on her 40th birthday, a provincial solicitor sends her some old, forgotten letters she wrote to herself when she was seven, the age of reason. Re-reading them one by one, she plunges back into hidden memories that upset all her certainties and cast doubt on her life choices. For she has become the opposite of what she hoped as a child.
