In 1945, 21 year old Truman Capote wrote the harrowing short story ‘Miriam’ which launched his career. This film is a faithful adaptation of that tale starring Marian Seldes. Mrs. Miller is an elderly widow living a quiet and lonely existence in her Manhattan apartment. One day she meets a precocious little girl named Miriam whose behavior becomes more and more shocking as Mrs. Miller becomes increasingly disturbed by her. MIRIAM is a tale of a woman whose mundane existence becomes exciting and frightening as she discovers the truth about ‘Miriam.’

Also of note, this short story was filmed once before back in 1969 for a trilogy of Capote stories called, oddly enough; 'Trilogy'. [ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0165996/ ]

Another little side note is that I've had a hard back copy of Truman Capote's 'The Grass Harp' for years and NEVER knew anything about the short story 'Miriam'. I'm going to have to dig it up and read this one, for sure!!
