Re: [REL] Mit 16 bin Ich weg (2008) [short]
Do you still have this film? I found a low res XviD version but the old version that was posted here must have been higher quality.
Re: [REL] Mit 16 bin Ich weg (2008) [short]
Thank you very much to whoever reshared this!
You are right, goku33, the old file at FLM looks better. Not alot, but enough to be noticeable.
Comparison specs:
The Youtube version is cropped on the sides and looks like it came from videotape.
The FLM version has the full image on the sides but looks like it is also stretched wider than it should be. I am guessing that it ought to be played instead at 16:10 ratio in VLC. (Possibly 16:9, I am not sure.)
[EDIT -- Mimzy has convinced me that I am definitely WRONG here and it should NOT be 16:10. Now I think it should be 1.85, but I am not going to create more screenshots. I may change my mind again tomorrow.]

I guess the version you found is this 480p one at YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tj6SW93S4Cw

Re: [REL] Mit 16 bin Ich weg (2008) [short]
If the FLM default is stretched, then very little IMO. The middle picture looks like the most correct aspect ratio of the 3.
Re: [REL] Mit 16 bin Ich weg (2008) [short]
I have to admit that you are right, mimzy! I started out taking screencaptures simply to demonstrate the difference between the two different videos, Youtube and FLM. It was only while I was doing that I noticed the aspect ratio looked off, and I stuck with the same images for my aspect ratio samples. But I know that people come in a variety of skinny and wide sizes so they may not have been the best image choices. I went through it again and focused on standard-sized objects in the surroundings, like alarm clocks and wall tiles and doors.
Ewww, yuck, my choice of 1.6 is definitely wrong. 1.78 is also (aka 16:9). But the FLM file's 1.957 still looks stretched to me ... VLC has a number of aspect ratio choices, but not the very common 1.85. So I checked out MPC, and while it has fewer aspect ratio choices, it DOES have 1.85.
(Why neither of these video players allows a user to manually enter a value, I do not know.)
BUT -- now I think that the movie SHOULD be 1.85!!! (This is closer to default than any of my other choices.) I won't subject FLM to more screenshots. Unfortunately the video quality always looks terrible with MPC on my computer for some reason (something to do with the video rendering?) so I will have to recode the video entirely in my chosen aspect ratio before I finally watch it.
Maybe some day we will get a version in 1080p with subtitles and uncropped, original correct aspect ratio.
Re: [REL] Mit 16 bin Ich weg (2008) [short]
I would like to know the VERY LAST line of dialog from someone who knows German and has seen the film. The last scene is MAJOR SPOILER TERRITORY so please put your answer in spoiler tags!! And don't go skipping to the end if you have not seen it yet. Details here:
That was a really good film! Thanks to popdrome, goku, the secret sharers, and to mimzy!
The lead character Jenny played by Lucie Hollmann was supposed to be 15 according to outside sources and the movie dialog. I said "Hell no! She looks 13 to me!" So I looked up her birthdate and got a filming period of "late summer 2007" from Wikipedia, which meant she was just barely 14. Aha! Don't go lying about your age to ME, girl!
When she was introduced in her new school by the principal, my mind wandered to my fantasy of an honest version of such an introduction of a new student. I think that the principal should say to the rest of the monsters, "I am sure you will treat her just as terribly as you do anyone else who is not in your private clique." That would be so refreshing in a movie! But that was not particularly where this film was headed, so it was not an issue.
For most of the runtime I was pleased to find that I was basically following the plot without any real knowledge of German. Then at the end I realized that I had really missed something important from getting only the emotional context of Jenny's conversations with her parents, and not the content of it. Oh well. From what I read online it was supposed to be a shocking ending anyway, and they got me alright.
I fully admit that I am an obsessive nitpicker with my struggle about the aspect ratio, 1.957 in the FLM release. Rightly or wrongly, I watched it in 1.85 AR. I am not about to put another version on emule, but I uploaded my 1.85 recode to ulozto:
