how to view samples?

Thanks to the operator and helpers for this discussion board.

When i click on any of the links for AVi files of films on this board nothing happens.

I thought the free version of limewire would work (it is good for music and apparently has access to films too) but none of the film titles I search for bring anything up.

I see that what i am clicking on are actual links to sites (?) where films can be downloaded but apparently some software is needed. I can't find any simple how-to instructions in the FAQs here.

Oh, and btw I am using a Mac laptop in a third world country with slow connections. I have tried all sorts of combinations (since mac has a single clicker mouse). Nothing works.

Some of the links on this site lead to a German porn (?) portal rather than on-topic film info/access. Correction - it's a pop-up ad with a salacious image of buxom woman and some long message in German. But with some fiddling around I found the emule site and am downloading.

I am not a computer person and find it all very confusing.

OK, so i go to the faq section of the emule project and it recommends for beginners, downloading an installer program. I diod that and according to written instructions on the emule site it;'s supposed to be a no brainer. 'click on .exe. file'. Well, when i do that i am advised that there is no default application to open the file. Every other software i have ever used was a simple matter of donwload and then click on an installer and way we go...

yep, same problem witha new download from another country - no default application to open it with, and the recommended one 'Microsoft Office' sure doesn't do the trick!

OK, let's start from the beginning:
You need the well known peer to peer software eMule to download movies posted here in this forum.

99% of the world is using Microsoft Windows, so i can't give you any advice for your Mac.

If you have a slow connection you will need months to downlaod a 700 MB movie i guess.. :(

The links posted here are for the ed2k network. You need an ed2k client to access this network and download the files. Most of the well known clients are for Windows only, but versions for other OSs do exist.

Check out http://www.amule.org/. There are several other clients you can try (Google for ed2k client mac), but this is free and open source, so guaranteed no spyware, adware, etc. :D

EDIT: and these are not samples. For the most part the links are for the entire movie. ;)

indeed, if you are using a Mac you need to be running amule then you can decide if you want to click on the links that are presented here for your info

As long as it supports the ED2K file protocol it should work. If not, get yourself the correct tool. Shareaza for instance can handle Torrent, eDonkey and some other files. As the files are different, so the networks are. Since eDonkey (=eMule) has definitely the most files available and the fact that here are only eDonkey/eMule files listed, it is strongly advised to use a pure eMule client. Once installed you should have access to the files and if you managed to download a portion of them, you can even watch a preview.

Alternative: Google for infos and trailers/pictures, anything. You know how to do this, don't you? :)

Whoever on this forum is actually using a Mac I welcome hearing from them what they are using, or at least the options. I downloaded amule and it is not as user friendly as itunes, idvd or imovie. That's the gold standard I go by - idiot-proof!
