[REL] Chuchelo (1983)

AKA: The Scarecrow; Чучело

:onfire I have been looking for THIS movie for YEARS!!

IMDB link:
http://imdb.com/title/tt0085335/

RFF link:
http://rarefilmfinder.com/showfilm.php?id=1187 ( NOTE: Though it made it to the RFF list, there doesn't seem to be mention of any OT scenes... ;) )

Synopsis:
Fantastic Russian 'coming of age' film. A young girl is teased by her classmates (giving her the nickname 'Chuchelo', or 'Scarecrow') and she deals with it on her intelligence and wit. While this may sound grim (it is set in '80's Russia, after all), it is at times funny, weird and massively enjoyable. Very superior to many more popular American teenage films, is much more realistic and the script and acting sharper. A highly underrated gem - just try and find it!
:bigups

(Sounds a bit like another DVD I picked up recently: Bluebird [ http://imdb.com/title/tt0159290/ ]; a made for Netherlands TV release about a talented young girl with a disabled brother who get's bullied at school. [Which, BTW, has been requested by Rich: https://www.first-loves.net/forums/v ... php?t=1273 . ]

LOL!

Rain on my parade!! ;)

Well, actually I was really surprised when I saw it had been on DVD for awhile and COULDN'T find a thread on it here!! Usually the 'elite' here at FLM are on top of releases like this...

NOW I'm surprised that it was deleted... Hopefully that was due to some oversight or glitch in the server switch back in Jan. '06, and NOT because the movie wasn't worth keeping around...

Anyway, debaser I'm more than happy to be able to bring 'Chuchelo' back to everyones attention; thanks for the heads up as it lets me know I'm in good company in appreciating this movie! :bigups

Sorry Kev, I didn’t mean it to come out like that. I was just taken back when I saw this release.

Now you have released, I must watch it again; I remember it being a little depressing, but I like the occasional bleak one :)

Thank you for this!

The fanatical behavior and hysterical outbursts reminded me of Dostoevsky characters. It was almost as if it was a loose adaptation of "The Idiot" with the young girl in the Prince Myshkin role.
