This is a "lost movie", with almost no release to cinemas in 1970, then later discovered in a film vault and released on DVD in 2008. The biggest reason it's notable is that Roman Polanski wrote the screenplay and was generally involved in its production. One story says Sharon Tate's murder interrupted him and doomed the film, I don't know for sure. I do know that this movie is not for everyone, it's a pretty relentless portrayal of alcoholism.
Bernie is an alcoholic, but his six year old niece Winnie still adores him (there are hints she may be more than his niece, but she calls him Uncle). He is taking her for a day at the beach, and the fact it's rainy and cold and the beach is deserted doesn't matter, since his main goal is to drink up the money her father provided for her care.
Beatie Edney does a very good job portraying Winnie, whose innocence and trusting nature is in stark contrast to Bernie as the day wears on. It's interesting that she did this one film, then nothing for 16 years, then has worked steadily in films and TV from 1986 to the present.
Peter Sellers does a cameo, credited as "A. Queen", which tells you all you need to know about his role.

My Rip. I obscured the title slightly for now, since the DVD release is so recent. (It was also released last year in the UK, but apparently in fullscreen, not widescreen).
