9yo Quvenzhané Wallis is nominated for Best Actress for this movie. Youngest Oscar nominee for Lead Actress ever.

She is the youngest nominee in the Best Lead Actresses category. (By far, Keisha Castle-Hughes from Whale Rider was the previous youngest at 13. Jennifer Lawrence from Winter's Bone is 3rd at 20 years old). The youngest nominee in any category is still Justin Henry from Kramer vs. Kramer for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. He was eight.

LOL, I knew I should have been more clear in my comment. Seems to be happening a lot lately.
I changed my original comment to better read what I originally said anyway.

She won the critic's choice award for best young actress. I have a feeling she will be winning a few more awards for being Hushpuppy.

And a little trivia she lied about her age when trying out for this part. The cut off was six to audition and she was only five.

She did and won for Best Supporting Actress when she was 11 but she wasn't even the youngest winner in that Category. That title belongs to 10 year old Tatum O'Neil for Paper Moon. It's gets confusing sometimes because they go by how old the person was when they received the nomination or won the award instead of how old they were when they made the movie. For example, Quvenzhané Wallis was only 6 when she made this film but was 9 when the nominations were announced a few days ago.
