Post by vidman49 »   47 likes

Language: Turkish and Kurdish, with English subtitles

Ten year old Gulistan and her brother Firat live in the heart of Turkish Kurdistan. Tragedy strikes when their parents are shot down by paramilitary gunmen before their very eyes. Traumatized and orphaned, Gulistan and Firat try to care for their infant sister, but their money soon runs out and they're forced onto the street. It is there that Gulistan meets the part-time escort Dilara. Accompanying her on a hotel call one day, Gulistan is shocked to discover Dilara's client is the murderer of her parents, and quickly devises a plan for revenge.

The girl got a Best Actress award from the Istanbul International Film Festival.

I spent about 8 hours trying to rip this from my DVD. DVD Decrypter kept giving me error messages, and other programs kept putting the audio way out of sync. I finally got it to work using a combination of about 3 different programs. In some spots of the movie, the video feels like it slows down and speeds up a couple of times a second, but usually it is not noticeable.

Unfortunately this happens sometimes. Not every dvd will rip the same with every program. I have over a dozen programs that I use to decrypt and convert. Many rips take several tries before I get a product I am happy with and sometimes I have to give up completely. The fact you didn't give up is what is great. More you do conversions the easier it will get and when you have a good final product it is very rewarding. :icon_thumbup1

Got any screenshots?

Here is a cover for you. http://unlimfiles.com/img_store/0/31/30/0.jpg ;)

Actually, I did give up. I first tried to rip it about 3 months ago and I finally gave up on it. Then, I was in India a little over a week ago and bought some DVDs over there, hoping to find something to post on FLM. I wasn't very impressed with what I got, and I wanted to contribute bad enough that I went back and started working on Before Your Eyes again. I am not completely satisfied with it due to the slow down speed up effect that is visible on parts of the video, but it wasn't bad enough to keep me from posting it.

I hope you all like it and that the speed problem is not too objectionable for you. Like I said, it is only noticeable part of the time.

There are several things that can cause the slow down speed up effect. I don't know if you want to attempt another encode? If you do I can PM you with some things to try. :)

I am pretty burnt out on this one right now. I see that Phuzzy & a few others are downloading. I don't think the slow down effect is very bad or objectionable, but if some others think it is after downloading it, let me know and I can have another go at it.

Good film, vidman. I thought she'd do something different when she was in the guy's apartment - I know what I would probably have done - but it was certainly poetic justice. So many adult burdens put on a girl so young. The ending scene with all the kids was pretty scary but it's also real life. I can't say I enjoyed this film because it wasn't a "happy" one but I'm glad I got to see it. Thanks for this.

PS: I didn't notice slowdown/speedup much, if at all.

Sometimes an encode has a slight frame stutter. Something to do with frames not compressing perfectly to match frame rate. I have had that on some of my encodes. It doesn't lose any sharpness when this happens and your eyes get used to it quickly. After a few minutes I didn't even notice it.

Great little movie and girl is very adorable. Thanks again Vidman :thumbsup
