Don't worry I have the same issue with technology, at present my computer is in a perpetual loop of trying to install the latest Win 10 update, restarting, failing, trying to install, restarting, failing etc... :wall damn Windows 10 !
Run "sfc /scannow" (without the quotes) as Administrator from a command prompt.
Run "chkdsk c: /f" (without the quotes) as Administrator from a command prompt. This will want a reboot.
Make sure all drivers are installed and up to date.
Disconnect whatever peripherals you can - USB drives, printers, external hard drives, etc. Leave the PC as bare-bones as possible.
Turn your antivirus and firewall OFF until the update completes.
If it asks if you want to install updates too, let it.

Believe me, I pull my hair out with these @(#*$&% Win10 updates - my organizations supports more than 30,000 computers and there are always hundreds that have problems with them.

The actual first logon was February 20, 2004, but you had to be building the board setup before that. You probably were up half the night getting everything working.

Thanks Phuzzy I have actually just deleted the downloaded update folder and installed a program called Win Update Stop, so hopefully it will solve the problem, if not I will definetly try your suggestion. Appreciated! :bigups

Don't get me started on Windows 10, it's the worst system I've ever had to deal with on my home computer :wall I somehow managed to get Cortana to stop working (which is excellent as I can't stand it) then lost my indexing  Then I had problems with playing games because so many background processes were running, the HD just swirls constantly, I swear Microsoft is mining bitcoin!! On my next computer I'm back to Windows 7, but for now I have to deal with it because it has all my work on it.

Wow I did not know this  Yes, it was a complete nightmare, not sure how I managed it. Fortunately the host provider was really helpful, I remember sending him multiple emails, like constantly so he could guide me through it  Which was very interesting considering the content of the site (which he must have had some idea what the site was about at that time), it was really cool that he was cool! :)

Microsoft is making Windows 7 end-of-life after January 2000. That means they'll no longer support it - no updates, no fixes, nada. And for Windows 10, if your version is more than 2 behind you'll have problems - you're probably working on getting 1809 installed so that means if your current version is older than 1607...

You'll note "Control Panel" is no longer available when you right-click the Start Button. It still exists - left-click the Start Button, don't click anything else, type "Control" (without the quotes), then click "Control Panel" when the words appear. MUCH better than the new retarded "Settings" windows. You'll also note that the MS programmers thought it was a great idea to f'in hide the scroll bars so you have to hunt for them to use them. MS programmers should be VERY glad they don't live near me because they'd be having their butts kicked on a daily basis. :icon_gattling

Lol I'm glad someone else has similar annoyance!! ;) Hmm, looking at the Updates given from Microsoft I very much doubt a lack of them will have any significant impact on Win 7. The ones for Win 10 are usually to do with Microsoft bloat / spy ware programs on the system, then they throw a little excerpt in saying something about it being a security update. I've absolutely no faith in Microsoft or their "security" updates lol

Better get used to these huge updates - there won't be a Windows 11. 6½GB for a stinking update is too much for most people and you have no choice if - or when - the update happens. I don't know how many times I've pulled my laptop out of the bag and fired it up because I needed it NOW and had to wait a half hour while it finished.

Yeah one of my friends had to give a presentation to about 20 people and his computer started to update about 5 minutes before the presentation was due  Absolutely terrible user control with Win 10  Not so bad if you want plug and play but if you want to customise there's no hope!

I dont use Windows 10 but is there no program on internet that simply prevents that Windows connects to MS servers except with your previous permission? Seems to be such an easy solution ...

Phuzzy will probably know more than me here but I think the whole operating system of Win 10 is interlinked such than it becomes dependant on connection with Microsoft, could be wrong.

Win10 'phones home' all the time to verify it's licensed. There are hacks to change how updates are handled but Group Policy locks that up. Besides that, my organization doesn't use WSUS for updates, it uses SCCM and there are even more restrictions. I've worked there 40 years - I ain't gonna get fired before I can retire.
