There is some confusion here: IMDB gives 180 minutes, RFF 2 minutes(??!!) ... on youtube there are two parts with 194 and 180 minutes (maybe the TV version?) ... Rutracker gives 2 x 91 minutes for the DVD version ...

There are often discrepancies in times because of the differences in frame rate between European and American films. We've had many discussions about it because people would search for "missing" scenes when in reality nothing was missing, timings are just a little different (about 24 frames/second in the U.S. vs. 25 frames/second in Europe).

Phuzzy4242, I fear you will face some difficulties if you try to explain a discrepancy of 100 % (respectively 50 % from the perspective of the longer version) with different frame rates ...

I probably misunderstood. I thought you were saying one version was 180 minutes long, one was 194 minutes long, and one was 182 minutes long (two 91-minute parts). A 374-minute film (180 + 194) is 6 hours 14 minutes - it would have to be a television miniseries because nobody would sit in a theater that long. Even a 180 minute version is 3 hours and probably television-only.

The frame rate would account for some of the difference, and a theater version versus a television version could account for the 12- or 14-minute difference. I haven't seen any of the versions so I don't know how long any of them are.

The youtube version is definedly from German TV ... Note that the DVD version is from Russia, so I guess they edited it heavily, either because many details are not of much interest for a Russian audience, or - maybe more probable - out of political reasons, because showing how they got into the possession of their exclave Kaliningrad (Königsberg) is even today not so desirable for Mr. Putin. ;)

I did not watch the movie either, because I foresee what I would get: 6 hours of ignoring or explaining away the true reasons for a genocide against millions of Germans and semi-legitimation of it as kind of an unavoidable mechanism started by Hitler (and as such by Germany itself) - interestingly people who do this in Germany like to call themselves "Anti-fascists", "Democrats", "Progressives" etc. ... Sorry if this may sound too right-winged  - but this is the frivolous way history is dealt with day after day in Germany and I think it's a fatal error ... :ugeek:

In the U.S. "Anti-fascists", Democrats, and Progressives are "left-wing" and even admit they're socialists and communists. But that's politics and really not appropriate here. In any case, IMDb says this film is 3 hours, not 6. I'm not real interested in this film - there are hundreds of World War II films and I see little that makes this one stands out from the rest for me.

Totally agree on what you say ... wasn't even meant political ... just explaining why I cannot enjoy this whole category of films ... :)
