This movie is very interesting, few stories or of the few movies with this theme, I tried to look for more about some real story that has inspired the film, and I found that most of it was fiction and only some rehabilitated convict writer was working.

And I had the opportunity to upload some subtitles in different languages thanks to the automatic translator deepl.com more effective than google-translate unlike him, can translate subtitles and not in disorder as usually happens with google.

Probably among the TOP 10 or TOP 20 on topic films.

I've started and stopped making another post to this thread numerous times, because I wanted to see what other people's reaction to it would be.

Watch the movie BEFORE you read my 'Spoiler' portion of this post.. (AND also before reading pistachio's quoting of my post on page 4.. ;) )
Spoiler:

I'll have to admit being somewhat disappointed and finding it overall lackluster.. :(

Not to discredit Julia Brown as Elke. She did an amazing job portraying her character; a lonely little girl virtually left on her own, trying to find some kind of friendship.

I just felt HIS character was plain weird. I could not work up any empathy for him and the angst he was going through. (And I can really RELATE to what he was going through...) I felt that 'The Woodsman' (2004) dealt with the subject of a person convicted of child molestation trying to put his life back together after being incarcerated and stumbling into a relationship with an aggressive little girl in a much better way.

Don't get me wrong, when it comes down to brass tacks; I enjoyed this movie! If for nothing else, mostly due to the presence of Julia Brown. I would have been her BESTEST BFF friend EVER!!!! :heart Most of all, I would have done anything I could to make her laugh and smile. :heart :heart :heart

The approach, unlike similar movies where the end is always tragic, is a fatalistic one, showing that people with such orientation can’t change what they are, even if the film does not provide an answer as how the society should deal with such persons, aside from repression, it is left open. But is he really the monster depicted by the society ? Not sure.

Agree.

eMule is a little awkward on Mac, but i thought the DVD mux was worth posting:

720x576 < ghost's, but it looked a little nicer with the film grain, to me.

Yes, inspired by 1 young man.

The DVD came with 2 in-home interviews (Tijmen, Toye), but they weren't subbed, so i didn't bother...

Toye talks some here I enjoyed:

Thanks for the DVD :)

But I think I prefer it in HD ;)

Alright.
The DVD is measurably better in this case. :ugeek:

I'm sure you know, a very high bitrate SD can contain more image detail than a compressed HD stream.
(The difference here is 7450 kbps MPEG vs. 3100 kbps H.264)

3 example screens, taken as PNG (no recompression).
Zoom each full-size in 2 browser tabs, and switch back & forth.

Example 1:
In the DVD, you can see the entire top seam on his shirt, and the shirt's texture.
In the HD, part of the seam is missing, and texture is washed out.
[DVD] [HD]

Example 2:
In the DVD, Julia's face/chest are well-dithered and her shirt has more detail.
In the HD, her face/chest are very blocky and her shirt has less detail.
[DVD] [HD]

Example 3:
The HD is missing an entire hair strand portion (draping above her shirtline @ 45˚ angle).
[DVD] [HD]

In every indoor scene I checked, the DVD contained more detail.
Outdoor scenes looked pretty close.

In 1 outdoor (laying in the grass) the MPEG struggled on a Julia's face edges, fsr. :?
MPEG does weird things even at super-high bitrates occasionally :p

But I believe the DVD is the objective winner, overall.
