I can get an unsubtitled version of the 2017 movie (complete and I believe without commercials), and I am currently looking into it. (Find time to download, watch it, see if it fits FLM ...)

The original 1998 film is available unsubtitled on dvd for $40 - $50. No thanks, not worth that!

Looks interesting but I am not sure if the story can be followed by non-Japanese speakers without the appropriate subtitles. Chinese subtitles are readily available, though!

The English title of the film is "Begging for Love" and the Japanese title 愛を乞うひと does indeed translate as "A person begging for love". I think you can guess what kind of video results are obtained from searching for that!

Trying very hard to give no spoilers.

I watched Rich_Visiting's preview and I may have missed the subtleties but I didn't need subtitles to get the gist of the story line. The little sweetheart playing the daughter is a stellar actress even at this age. Ohmygod I wanted to smack the crap out of the mother, then make her eat that crap just so I could smack it out of her again. She had to be either batcrap crazy or just plain evil and I don't know how the other adults in the area, especially the man living there, could allow her to do that.

This part of the film cut off abruptly, but the teaser at the beginning gives an idea of how the situation resolves, thank goodness. I don't want to watch the woman do any more but I do want to see how she gets punished for it.

Definitely not for the weak of heart because your blood pressure is gonna go through the roof. Watching the wacky Japanese commercials can be pretty entertaining.

I happen to have a full dvdrip of this movie, and am sharing it now. Unfortunately it doesn't come with an English subtitle; the hard Chinese subtitle is unremovable.

You of course read correctly, and I have edited my post to reflect this. I was just so excited and in haste to give my thanks to flmwayne ...

It has subtitles ... I just have not been educated to read them.

I am also looking forward to your version ghost without any subtitles ... and with the number of Japanese films I have watched, I have a better chance of understanding a few spoken words here and there of Japanese than I have of learning written Chinese because hooboy that would take some serious study and work.
