[REQ] The Fire Raiser (1986) [TV series][New Zealand] AKA Undercover Gang

MOD EDIT, ORIGINAL THREAD TITLE:
Children’s TV series from 70/80s - help to identify

Can anyone remember a children’s TV series featuring boys swimming in an outdoor lake completely naked, while the girls are in a separate lake swimming with bathing suits. I will try to give as much information as possible so someone may recall (I will put uncertain points in brackets).

I saw this in the late 80s on UK television, so details are sketchy. But there some undeniable facts mixed with this. I only saw one part, this is the scenes I remember:

1) The male teacher takes the boys for swim class at an outdoor lake. They swim nude. There is shot of numerous (at least 20, seemed like 40) naked boys running past then away from the camera into the lake. The camera shows their bare bottoms, as the shot is from behind.

Virtually all the boys are white, but I distinctly remember at least one coloured boy in there (as I recall thinking that he will of course be easy to spot by the people who know him!)

2) Despite all the boys being naked, the two or three main boy characters inexplicably wear swimsuits. These are the old fashioned type of swim suits which cover the upper body as well.

3) The girls wear similar (or same) swimsuits as the boy protagonists. The boys and girls do not swim together, they are in separate lakes, and the girls have a female teacher

4) Whilst boys are in swim class, a man (who I think may be either deaf or mute or slow) steals the boy’s clothes. One boy leaves class early and spots the missing clothes, then returns to his teacher. There is a shot of him using his hands to cover his ‘crown jewels’ while explaining the situation to the teacher

5) The teacher goes to what I think is the man’s garden. The man is being protected by his mother(?). The teacher tries to persuade them to give the clothes back. But this doesn’t work, so the teacher attempts an inventive way to make the ‘mother and son’ team return the clothes: he blows his whistle and then there is a shot of the nude boys running around the mother and son team. The mother responds by saying something along the lines of “I’ve seen plenty naked boys before”

The images in the above five scenes, I am pretty certain that occurred. There are parts I am less certain of, and I will describe them here: I think there is a scene where the male teacher and the boy in swimsuit walk towards the girl’s lake. The girls are changing their clothes in what I think may be a cave. The female teacher lectures the boy for coming to the girl’s area.

I watched the series in the UK in the late 80s, and I only watched one part. I believe it to be a UK production, or could be Australia (then again could be somewhere else). I think the story was set in an earlier time period. It may have been filmed any time from late 70s to mid 80s. As I mentioned, it was shown as a series, but I know from other shows of that era, the bbc and itv used to cut many tv films from the 70s and present them as a series, so this may even be a film.

I know it has been 20 years since I saw it, but the undeniable facts are there (of course mixed in with less certain parts). Someone else must remember this series! As I never watched whole series, there may be other OT scenes with girls and boys.

That’s a pretty good description.
I hope someone remembers it for you after all that

I watch a lot of British TV, but I sure as hell don’t remember that series.

I know how frustrating it is when you cant remember the name of an old program that you are desperate to see again.

Good luck!

Great job figuring this one out, tommythewolf, thanks!

You are right, it would be great to find the whole series. This is what little I have found so far:

I don't see why someone would record just Episode 3 and not the rest the series! Strange that they only shared that episode. Somebody somewhere in the world has it, for sure.
