3D gaming is getting a lot better, with headsets. Not much choice of films but the experience is said to be impressive.

If by this you mean the blue eye / red eye glasses from the 1950s, imho they are shit! (Sorry.) I was never impressed by the effect. The effect of the more advanced glasses might impress me, but they would be even less comfortable. Oh well.
Actually mine are plastic. The cinema ones are plastic. I recall getting some cardboard ones for something.
Anyway - the film looks beautiful, and even better in 3D as Scorcese filmed it for 3D with stereo cameras.
Very tiny spoiler - the train crash bit is a weird unnecessary effect the film doesn't need - it's totally unrelated to the story! Not sure what purpose it serves at all.
