Fulaninha (1986).1080p.web-dl.mp4

Dark scenes are extremely grainy, but the brighter scenes look quite good. And the whole thing is an improvement over my previous version. It looks like a film print was scanned in without any restoration work - AI enhancement could probably improve the picture even further. 8-)
Awesome looks great!
Can I ask where did u find it?

In a surprising place. Most of the time the Internet Archive stores lower quality versions of movies - but not so in this case!

https://archive.org/details/fulaninha-1986

I used the download options to get the file. For some reason it gives you an 8 GB zip with two identical copies of the movie, labeled slightly differently. No clue why. Subtitles would be good but alas, they don't have them.

Another member pointed me to this source in a PM some months ago. Don't remember who it was. I had so much personal stuff going on at that time, I downloaded and forgot ... until yesterday when the thread was bumped.

I could be totally wrong as my memory is not great these days but I think I had sent you the Archive.org Link and assumed it wasn’t better than your previous version but just the same.

Archive.org does store two versions because one is the original upload while the second video file will be the re-encoded version for streaming. E.g. if you upload a mkv (h264), Archive.org still will create another mp4 of it.

Anyways, great to see an upgrade for this.

It was probably you then. Thanks for steering me there!

Both versions of the file are exactly the same size, to the last byte. The specs are identical. So I just picked one. Yeah, it's unusual for the archive.org version to be of very high quality. I haven't found another example where it's the best source for something.

Oh interesting, never run into the best version on archive.org either. Good find.

My understanding is that generally the Archive.org content is out of copyright and freely available. The only other example I can think of the best quality version being found there is
Spoiler:

the 22.2 Gb 1080p 35mm transcoded release of "[V2] Notelu's Song Of The South Restoration". (Disney gave up protecting the original property long ago.) It has children in lead roles, but my interest is in the animated and partly-animated portions. Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah.
Thanks for this one, deadman!

you are correct that they are the same size but if you ever want to use archive.org you should know that archive.org changes uploaded video to be able to play in browser.
you can find out which file is the original file is by opening the
https://archive.org/download/fulaninha- ... _files.xml
and seeing that is says:

Code: Select all

<file name="Fulaninha (1986).ia.mp4" source="derivative">
<format>h.264 IA</format>
<original>Fulaninha (1986).mp4</original>
<mtime>1663714025</mtime>
<size>4261836363</size>
<md5>10e4ec16cb4e19c8797ddb10b3d80741</md5>
<crc32>0940e418</crc32>
<sha1>d71d1f1cc8e67d50492b93044a8cd5aa4de62e60</sha1>
<length>6035.88</length>
<width>1920</width>
<height>1080</height>
</file>
<file name="Fulaninha (1986).mp4" source="original">
<mtime>1663713018</mtime>
<size>4261836363</size>
<md5>034a34a1bbccc90d7802240843ff94bb</md5>
<crc32>b5d55512</crc32>
<sha1>65398e47020faa01f7c2fb96f5b7fd55f8b8a2d4</sha1>
<format>MPEG4</format>
<length>6035.88</length>
<width>1920</width>
<height>1080</height>
</file>
from archive.org blog:
"You can view information about every file in this directory by viewing the file ending in _files.xml (in this example, popeye_taxi-turvey_files.xml). Each file in the item is listed here, along with whether the source is “original” (uploaded by the user), “derivative” (derived by archive.org), or “metadata” file. You will also find a format designation, various checksums, and sometimes titles for the files."

in this case I think the video was not re-enocded but in other uploads like here:
https://archive.org/download/crime-delicado-2005
you can see that the two video files are

Code: Select all

Crime Delicado (2005).mkv
              Crime Delicado (2005).mp4
and you can see in the xml file that the mkv is the original upload.
