Maybe it was Danish, I'll check if there's a subtitle track - but I didn't look to re-encode it as I only wanted the film.Night457 wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 11:22 am???David32441 wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 8:20 am The DVD did include a long documentary on the artist but with german audio.
I remember multiple talking-head documentaries in Danish with optional English subtitles. Maybe I did not listen closely enough if there was one in German!
Anyway, what is important for your resolution upgrade is the MOVIE. Thanks!

I just asked, because all your upscales are in 720p.This DVD was PAL (so based of 576 lines not 480 with NTSC), but it wasn't widescreen enhanced - so had a vertical resolution of only about 460 lines. Topaz was upscaling it 156.5% to 720p. Pushing it to 1080p would be >200% and it looked a bit fake.

I was not suggesting a recode of the bonus features. Those are bonuses for those who want the whole DVD! (Which I now have thanks to reptile12.) And I do not need high resolution of talking head interviews that I would only watch once, if ever. I used to watch such DVD bonus features at 2x speed because so many interview subjects talk so slowly and the only point to the feature is sharing information. If I can get that info faster, great.

If my source was 720p I might upscale to 1080p. I think I did a few 1080p's, not many. And I tried with Red Cherry and I couldn't even make it look good at 720p. I think I did an encode to 560p. But 720p is fine for low resolution sources I find - and I haven't paid the $ to upgrade my Topaz to the newest versions.ghost wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 11:34 amI just asked, because all your upscales are in 720p.This DVD was PAL (so based of 576 lines not 480 with NTSC), but it wasn't widescreen enhanced - so had a vertical resolution of only about 460 lines. I know software is a tricky thing when it comes to piracy,,but if you ever need a pirated version of topaz let me know. (I do think they are also distributed on rutracker and vetted.)David32441 wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 2:34 pmIf my source was 720p I might upscale to 1080p. I think I did a few 1080p's, not many. I assume with 1080p upscale it can potentially look easier fake indeed. After all you’re adding even more new, calculated/guessed pixels to it than just 720p. But It probably heavily also depends on how good the dvd source in itself is.

If the source is of good quality, even 480p to 1080p can look great. I did some.
You really should upgrade to version 3.X.X. It really has improved a lot. Especially the Proteus fine tune model. Its auto-modus does a very good job if the source is good. Looks much more natural like this Artemis medium model (which I nearly don't use anymore). But enough tech talk.

I did Artemis HQ for this one using one of the 2.x's. I also tend to avoid using the medium model as it blurs too much of the detail.ghost wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 3:36 pm If the source is of good quality, even 480p to 1080p can look great. I did some.

Also. I should have watched it through - I missed that there's a few non-English lines in the film! I found 2 subtitles at https://www.opensubtitles.org/en
The big file is the text for all the films dialogue. The small file is the subtitle for the non-english lines. I've attached it below.
I suggest merging it in as a forced subtitle using MKVmerge. Set the video to 25fps. If watching it on a PC just name the file (except the extension) the same as I named the mkv file and it will play in VLC.
