Yes, I have English subtitles, but some words before:

I did something I never did before. For the first time in my life, I had to use Android on my WIndows system.
So I installed the Windows-Subsystem for Android and installed the Aurora store (has the same apps like Google Playstore).

And that's the reason for it: There is a dutch App for Android called Subcatch. They provide SDH subtitles for deaf people and they have this movie!

And it worked! I could install the apk! BTW, that's a cool app. It recognizes the audio of a movie and the subs appear on the screen of your phone (in my case on my monitor) on a black background. In this way deaf people can watch a movie in cinema or on TV and have the subtitles on their smartphone or tablet.

So I played the movie and captured my screen (the Subcatch app). Then I had a black video with only the SDH subs! VideoSubFinder did the rest...
Of course the last step was some editing and the translation into English.

I don't know how you manage to find this software, ghost. "Alexa, I am bored with ChatGPT for making subtitles. Give me something else just for Dutch, and make sure it does NOT work with Windows. That would be too easy."

But again, I will prove myself out of step with technology: how can someone watch a movie in a theatre AND the subtitles on their phone at the same time? Hold it high up in front of them for two hours and watch the movie AROUND the phone blob? Wear a special hat or neck brace that holds the phone up for them?

Aha, so she DOES have a stand to hold her tablet. I see it is one of them new-fangled luxury theatres with LOTS of space around the seating. But again I am behind the times: a LAMP next to every seat? Turned on all the time? What for? So groping is visible to all? Whatever happened to watching movies in the dark? I guess with all those HEARING people playing with their glow phones and ruining the dark anyway, someone had the sense to come up with an actual GOOD use for the phones.

But Hong Kong came up with a good solution decades ago: automatic subtitles on every movie in the theatre. Of course it was imposed by the British in charge that they have ENGLISH subtitles in addition to the Chinese, because the British found they liked kung-fu movies too. With the 1997 handover I assume the English requirement was dropped, but I do not know whether or not they have kept the Chinese subtitles.

You're lucky. I was just going to delete them.

These are the Dutch subtitles, but I removed the SDH parts.

Please oh please would you consider archiving original language subtitles when you get them? They really take up virtually no storage space. Or when you post your end result subtitles (English) you can post the original language as an attachment on FLM and then delete them from your personal storage and be done with them. With all the work you sometimes go through to get them, it is a darn shame to just delete them entirely. Someone might find them useful, as seen here.

I routinely post(ed) both original and translated subtitles when it took a little work (beyond opensubtitles.org) to get the original. Sometimes I deliberately posted them separately (not all in one ZIP) because I was curious how much interest there was in the original. The originals were pretty much ALWAYS wanted. Of course this could very well be an unspoken comment on the relative quality of my amateur translations vs. the quality of YOURS, even when I put actual effort into mine. But I am sure you can see the potential usefulness of the original even when there is no issue with the translation. Certainly someone who understands the original language but has hearing difficulties can use them, and they might not especially care to install an Android emulator on their Windows device.
