[Image]12-year-old Anna and her deaf mother are slowly becoming a little cramped in their shared apartment. It is not just the lack of privacy that is causing friction - Anna has just started high school and quickly understands what is important now: branded clothing and belonging. A fake Ralph Lauren sweater is quickly procured, but money is still lacking. In her debut, Marie Luise Lehner stages a confrontation with classist structures, which Anna faces with a mixture of shame and courage. She finds an accomplice in Mara, who provokes with feminist questions and also lives alone with her queer father. Lehner unconditionally stands by her heroes, gives them space for introspection and outbursts, lets them backtrack and reconcile. Not fitting in allows them to get to know and appreciate themselves. Lehner raises the flag of solidarity, quite naturally and with plenty of pop-cultural references. And ends with a liberating “Fuck you, Vienna”, high above the rooftops of the city.
