As far as motion graphics are concerned, it's already a huge improvement.

But still many problems, and there is still a long way to go before it is truly usable.

I saw this problem being reported in the Topaz forums, so it's definitely not a unique situation. They definitely have a lot to work on. Hopefully they'll introduce manual controls soon so we can fine tune it to recover detail and reintroduce grain to reduce that waxy look.

Thanks for following up and replying.
Yes, they made amazing attempts. But dealing with different situations is definitely a challenge.
I don't think they want too many manual tweaks, for the ease of use and business considerations of the software.
And once open, they will be very complex rabbit holes, which I believe are difficult for most ordinary users to deal with.
We can only hope for the development of open source models and ecology, and you can have all the control.
Or spend years waiting for it to continue to perfect until it becomes more usable.

And this is Starlight, if you don't use a close up scene. A bit disappointing:

For anyone who's interested, I've had my own attempt at AI upscaling from the German VHS rip. Whilst I personally think it's an improvement, the upscaler obviously can't work miracles, so the quality is still far from perfect.

The audio is the German dub, with English subtitles included. I have got a French version, but it has a Russian voice-over I can't get rid of, so I've not included that here. I'm sure once-upon-a-time I did see a version with the original French soundtrack.
