The movie, which tells of Demy's childhood and adolescence, is split into three parts, features "Jacquot" at roughly eight years of age (Philippe Maron), thirteen (Edouard Joubeaud), and seventeen (Laurent Monnier).
The major focus of each stage is the boy's obsession with film, young Jacquot building himself a puppet theater, the teen making his own flicks; other issues include childhood romance and the Nazi occupation of France. Throughout, footage from Demy's films as well as commentary from him are to be found. Moving, yes, but with its intense focus on an individual's love for the movies, cellophiles will perhaps best appreciate.
