[REL] South Bronx Heroes (1985)
AKA Revenge Of The Innocents/The Runaways
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090053/
[Image]
Filmed independently, Runaways was released in 1985 under two alternate titles, South Bronx Heroes and Revenge of the Innocents. 14-year-old Paul (Brendan Ward) and 11-year-old Michelle (Melissa Esposito) escape the cruelties of foster father Bennett (Martin Zurla). They run off to the nether regions of the South Bronx, but not before Paul has appropriated some photos that will expose Bennett as a kiddie-porn merchant. Inner-city youths Tony and Chrissie (played by real-life siblings Mario and Megan Van Peebles) use these photos as part of a blackmail scheme. Ultimately, however, Tony and Chrissie turn out to be good kids and help bring Bennett to justice. So much ad-libbing occurs onscreen in Runaways that Mario Van Peebles is given an "additional dialogue" credit. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide.

This came to me as a supposed iso rip of a DVD. It certainly isn't DVD quality......more the standard of an average VHS rip. Although quite rare, this is another one available on DVD so hopefully an upgrade will appear. My own rip from the iso file.

Re: [REL] South Bronx Heroes (1985)
Thanks lb! 'Runaways' rings a bell.
Since they were able put four old movies on one DVD (in FS), the quality of the original may not be that great.
My wild guess is they release a lot of these old movies very cheaply by digitzing analog tapes they made in the 80s for distribution to TV stations, rather than spending the money to rescan the film (in which case the DVD would be WS). The Circle of Two DVD was like that, though definitely better than VHS.
Speaking of cheap releases, there's a movie I'd like to release here where I got the R1 DVD in English, but the DVD quality was atrocious and there is no way I will release that rip. It was a FS version obviously made from an old print (though this is only a 1997 film), the speckling in the film print is pretty constant and they needed to turn the color intensity way up to make the English hard subs readable (and they still often aren't). Too bad, the original WS version in Spanish is beautiful. Some day I will spend the time to transcribe the subs and release it. Though I think I better get off my ass and get everything I have in process done, you and others keep releasing stuff I was meaning to get to

Re: [REL] South Bronx Heroes (1985)
This is available on DVD bundled with other movies or more importantly as a standalone release. It's sufficiently cheap to take a chance on buying for better quality unless you choose this rather optimistic UK seller.
