Believe is an upcoming American science fiction/fantasy/adventure series expected to debut after the 2014 Winter Olympics on NBC. The series was created by Alfonso Cuarón and will be produced by JJ Abrams. Newcomer Johnny Sequoyah will play Bo, the 10 year old girl at the center of the story.

The series follows a young girl who was born with special abilities that even she cannot control, and as they start evolving, the people who are protecting her must turn to an outsider. This leads them to a wrongfully convicted death-row inmate whom they break out of prison. Although he is reluctant to take on the role as her protector, the two eventually form a bond that will guide them to helping others as well as each other while staying one step ahead of the evil forces that want the girl.

Should be interesting, although Lost and Heroes tended to drag on way too long - like Gilligan's Island. :P

I know a woman whose real legal name is Mikey and another whose name is Mack (named for Mack trucks). Her sister's name is Lauren but everyone calls her Fred.

I also know a woman whose real name is Honda. If she'd been a boy, her parents would have named her Harley. :D

Believe is about an unlikely relationship between a gifted young girl and a man sprung from prison who has been tasked with protecting her from the evil elements that hunt her power.

Levitation, telekinesis, the ability to control nature, even predict the future... since she was two years old, Bo has had gifts she could neither fully understand nor control. Raised by a small group known as the "True Believers," the orphaned girl has been safeguarded from harmful outsiders who would use her forces for personal gain. But now that she is 10, her powers have become stronger, and the threat has grown more dangerous.

With her life and future now in jeopardy, the "Believers" turn to the only person they see fit to be her full-time protector. That is, once they break him out of jail. Tate, a wrongfully imprisoned death row inmate who's lost his will, is initially reluctant - until he witnesses one of her extraordinary abilities. Bo sees people for who they truly are... and who they may become.

Tate and Bo begin their journey, one in which trust must be earned. Traveling from city to city, every place they stop and everyone they meet will be changed forever. But they'll have to keep going to stay one step ahead of the sinister forces after Bo's power... because it will take a miracle to keep them safe forever.

The powers of a young girl may determine the fate of our world in "Believe," from executive producers Alfonso Cuarón, J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk, Hans Tobeason, Dave Erickson and co-executive producer Kathy Lingg. One-hour drama.

I am really looking forward to this! We still don't know when this show is going to premier. It's supposed to be sometime next month but no word yet on an exact date. I hope that's not a bad sign.

‘Believe’ Shakeup: Third Showrunner Named for J.J. Abrams-Alfonso Cuarón Series

Jonas Pate is replacing the NBC drama’s second showrunner, Dave Erickson

J.J. Abrams and Alfonso Cuarón’s NBC drama “Believe” hasn’t aired yet, but is on its third showrunner.

The series’ second showrunner, Dave Erickson, is out, and Jonas Pate will take his place, individuals with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap. The show’s production company, Warner Bros. Television, confirmed Pate’s appointment.

Pate (pictured) is also being promoted from a co-producer to executive producer. Formerly an executive producer on “Deception,” Pate also directed the second episode of “Believe.”

TheWrap was the first to exclusively report back in July that “Believe” co-creator and original showrunner Mark Friedman had stepped down from the post over creative differences. Erickson was then tapped to replace him.

Creative differences are also the reason Erickson is on his way out now, according to those familiar with the matter. Apparently, there’s a lot of disagreement about the direction of the series after the pilot. For writing purposes, the production will go on holiday hiatus earlier than planned and resume production in January.

The individuals close to the situation tell TheWrap that Erickson is in negotiations for an exit package. WBTV was unable to confirm those talks.

Series co-creator Cuarón, Abrams and Burk will remain as executive producers. Executive producer Hans Tobeason also remains with the show and will now serve as the on-set producer in New York.

NBC hasn’t set an airdate for “Believe.” Despite the shakeup, individuals with knowledge of production said that the show is still on track for a midseason premiere date once it’s set.

NBC entertainment president Jen Salke told TheWrap in October that she was pleased with “Believe” and Erickson as its showrunner. She also said she’s impressed with how involved Cuarón and Abrams are in the production.

“Dave Erickson’s doing an incredible job running that show, and both J.J. and Alfonso reached out to me yesterday to tell me how excited they are. And given that they’re both incredibly busy right now, they are still reviewing, looking at all the material,” she said.

“Believe” follows Bo (Johnny Sequoyah), a young girl with mysterious powers who’s destined to change the world, and her protector Tate (Jake McLaughlin). Both being hunted down by assassins.

The drama was co-created by Friedman and Cuarón (“Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” “Children of Men”) and is being produced by Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions (“Revolution,” “Person of Interest”) with Bryan Burk.

In July, the series was undergoing rewrites, which led to actress Sienna Guillory, who played a hit-woman on the original pilot, being written out as the series in order to focus on multiple international assassins pursuing Bo and Tate.

Since then, the series has cast “Spartacus” alum Nick Tarabay and “Rome” actress Kerry Condon in recurring roles.
