Since I have seen the Short Movie "Sprout" from Ga-eun Yoon, I'm in love with that country and movies from there. Another masterpiece from there is now Bimileui eondeok | The Hill of Secrets | Hügel der Geheimnisse. I saw the World Premiere of that at the Berlinale and I can promised, if you like the movies from Ga-eun Yoon, you will love this one to.

Als Klassensprecherin richtet Myung-eun einen Briefkasten für Wünsche und Geheimnisse ein. Damit kennt die Zwölfjährige sich aus, von beidem hat sie eine Menge. Den Wunsch nach Anerkennung etwa – von ihrer Lehrerin, ihrer Klasse, ihren Eltern. Aber vielleicht wünscht sie sich lieber doch gleich andere Eltern? Eine Mutter, die eleganter und weniger geizig ist. Einen Vater, der ins Büro geht und nicht erst vormittags aufsteht. Vorerst macht sie aus ihrer Familie lieber ein Geheimnis. Einen Weg in die Welt bietet ihr die Teilnahme an Aufsatzwettbewerben, für die sie gründlich recherchiert. Als eine neue Schülerin in die Klasse kommt, zeichnet sich noch ein anderer Weg ab.

As class president, Myung-eun sets up a mailbox for wishes and secrets. The twelve-year-old is familiar with these, she has a lot of both. The desire for recognition, for example – from her teacher, her class, her parents. But maybe she would rather have other parents right away? A mother who is more elegant and less stingy. A father who goes to the office and doesn't get up until mid-morning. For the time being, she prefers to keep her family a secret. Participation in essay competitions, for which she does thorough research, offers her a way into the world. When a new student joins the class, another path emerges.
