So 3 or 4 years ago... :icon_biggrin2

Check the discussion board at the imdb link for 'Emily the Strange' [ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0482500/ ]: (Discussion board link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0482500/boa ... /124028731 )

The last 2 posts, I think, sum up the whole situation:
A_Bob wrote:Actually, the Nate the Great controversy is now over as of Aug 2009 when everyone came to an agreement. http://www.emilystrange.com/blog/index. ... he-Strange -And-Nate-The-Great-Creators-Resolve-Dispute

And Rosalind from Nate the Great has a similar look to the original Wednesday Addams in comic strip form. Goth looking girls are did not start with Nate the Great.

I love EtS (always have) and didn't make the Rosamond connection until people started making a big fuss about the similarities.

My biggest problem with the 'controversy' is the fact the EtS people's initial response was to deny everything. Doing that makes someone among them an obvious liar.

I can understand nyamanku's frustration but like MilesCochran, despite the glaring similarities, I'm not panning the entire EtS series due to someone ripping their character from a single panel. I just wish THAT person had had the cojones to admit that Rosamond was Emily's inspiration from the beginning.

Hell, if they had taken the initiative to contact the Nate the Great people BEFORE going public with Emily to begin with the whole mess could have been avoided. But of course at that time no one had any idea that EtS would take off like she did.
I noticed that in the 'agreement resolving all disputes' that it was not mentioned that anyone from the 'Emily' camp ADMITTED to basing Emily on the Rosamond character... Damn crying shame people just can't be honest... :think

I also noticed this movie no longer says 2013 at IMDb but (????). Apparently the movie has been canceled for now or at least pushed back a bit. :(

This is older news from a fews months back, but I thought I would add it for an update:

Kealan O’Rourke to Rewrite Chloe Moretz Movie ‘Emily the Strange’ (Exclusive)
http://www.thewrap.com/kealan-orouke-to ... exclusive/
“Mirror Mirror” writer Melisa Wallack wrote a previous draft

Kealan O’Rourke will rewrite “Emily the Strange,” a movie based on the Dark Horse graphic novels that will star Chloe Grace Moretz as the titular goth girl, according to two individuals with knowledge of the deal. Melisa Wallack (“Mirror Mirror”) wrote a previous draft of the script, which is in development at Universal.

Rob Reger and his company Cosmic Debris created the character in 1993, and it has since become popular worldwide in myriad forms, from books to clothing to entertainment. Dark Horse Comics has released several graphic novels related to Emily, and Dark Horse Entertainment’s founder and president Mike Richardson will produce the film adaptation.

Dark Horse’s Keith Goldberg will executive produce the film with Reger.

O’Rourke has previously written and directed several shorts, including ‘The Boy in the Bubble.” That is being turned into a movie, one of three other projects O’Rourke has set up across town. He is also developing “The Houdini Box” for Chernin Entertainment and “Bolivar” for Warner Bros.

He is represented by Paradigm, manager Jairo S. Alvarado and attorney Robert Szymanski.

As much as I love Chloe, she is too old now and I think it is a shame they are not giving the part to a younger girl. I hope by the time this comes ready they will re-cast.

I agree with donkeykog on this. There is a limited time-window in which a particular actor is suitable for a child role such as this. They blew their shot at having Chloe do this by waiting too long. I could have liked AnnaSophia Robb for this too, but she's even older - she would have been right at the age when she did 'Terabithia'.

i don't know what brought me here, but:

A: this was a blatant rip-off. And I've read and enjoyed all the FaultyLogic arguments, defending this rip-off, which all came down to:
but but but ... me stealing your work is A-OK because Tom also stole stuff from Dick and Harry!
I think The Simpsons and ???? Guy came up.
Ye olde "two wrongs don't make a right". Ya just can't justify murder/theft because someone élse, at some point in time has also murdered/stolen before. Nuh-uh.

B: the most important links have gone dead. Here's an archived one:
https://web.archive.org/web/20120217134 ... e-strange/
and another
https://web.archive.org/web/20150202164 ... ve-Dispute

I really hope Marjorie Sharmat and Marc Simont got a hefty sum from thief Reger, and a percentage of future profits. But somehow I don't think so.

C: In a nice episode of Karma, it seems that at least the movie is not EVER gonna happen, certainly not with Moretz who would be bad for it anyway. She also Disneyfied "Låt den rätte komma in (2008)" with her Barbiedoll looks (Yes I like Barbie as much as everyone, but this wasn't a good fit). She was right for Kick-Ass because she didn't have any girl parts then (in the original comic books the character is totally FLAT), but she was kinda voluptuous, even way back then in 2013....
