Johnny's grandfather invites him to the farm but his parents don't have time to drive him so, after much persuasion, he's allowed to ride the train alone and his grandfather picks him up at the station. He soon makes friends with the local children, especially little Tereza. Johnny is invited to the school by the teacher who also taught his father.He comes to school with the cat, which runs off, and the other children volunteer to help look for it. Johnny gets lost and the other children find him.
This is the film adaptation of a book most Czech children of that time read as one of their first books in school.
