Newbie here, don't know where to start!

Post by Asmrdwarf »   3 likes

Hello, everyone!
I just discovered this site yesterday after looking for hours for a place to download La Petite Allumeuse, one of my old favorites. I swear every search engine and terms I used produced barely anything, as if the internet was gatekeeping me lol. Finally, I came across this forum and WOW. There are so many films here and you've all been at this for years, how have I never came across this!? In any case, I am glad I did and decided to register. If anyone could be so kind as to suggest a place to start that'd be great because the acronyms and sheer number of works here are a little overwhelming. Oh, and Thank you thank you for helping me find Jean-Louise and Camille again!

Asmrdwarf, welcome to FLM! (First Love Movies)

Like you, I discovered this site accidentally when searching for a film. I just read new posts and only went back to old ones if there was a specific movie I was looking for, because the new posts kept me busy. Browse around and I am sure you will find something of interest.

If I did not recognize an obscure acronym and could not find it by searching this site or using Google, I would actually ask in a post! I try to spell everything out when I remember to in my own posts. (The Search... function at the top of the page is very useful for finding detailed discussions dating back years.)

While some users will post direct-downloads, a movie is not considered a Release until it is shared on emule. Do you have emule? You can use this to start you out:

Step-by-Step eMule Setup

And take a quick look at this if you have not already:
POSTING GUIDELINES - PLEASE READ!

Enjoy!

I have seen other users on here talk about emule, I have never heard of it and I assumed it was some complex editing software I would need to learn how to use but, if it helps me view films more easily and conveniently, I will definitely check it out. Thank you for welcoming me and for your suggestions!

Nobody has to do video processing or editing unless they want to. There are some real experts at it here, and they are willing to give advice to those who are interested. Most people share the videos they download elsewhere as is.

Emule is just peer-to-peer sharing software. It is admittedly a little more difficult to set up than a torrent client but once set up it is very easy to share files. The ed2k links in the Release posts will open in your emule client once it is set up and running and you click the links.

Emule has been around for a loooong time but I never heard of it until I came here either.

The setup guide goes into detail about options you probably do not need, so try to get the basic installation working and proceed from there. I admit I did not read it in detail myself (aaagh, I hate tech manuals!) but instead installed emule, ran it and saw what happened, then made adjustments and corrections as needed.

Nice, I am going to give it a try tonight. Hopefully it works on my old 2010 MacBook lol! If I have any questions, I'll be sure to post on the appropriate thread. Oh by the way, what does OT stand for? I would guess it means "off topic" but I wasn't sure and don't want to waste the bandwidth on a film that I'm not gonna enjoy. Thanks again, Night!

The opposite! :D It means On-Topic. This predates FLM by several years.

Generally it means *cough* underage material *cough*.

Here it refers more specifically to nude scenes in movies. :geek:

EDIT- What's the difference between [REL] and [RREL]?

Requested-release? Re-release?

I am pretty sure the eMule equivalent generally used by Mac users is amule:

http://www.amule.org/
https://github.com/amule-project/amule

There are Mac users here for sure.

I have not seen RREL used for recently created threads and I am pretty sure it means Re-Release. It seems to date back to the early days when the original site went down and changed management, and some of the original movie threads got lost. So they were Re-Released in a newly-created thread. There is no reason to use that prefix now. We either have REQ (Request) or REL (Release).
A film is a [REL]ease when there is a verified eMule link - in other words, the complete file has been downloaded and the film really is FLM material. If nobody has the complete file, it's a [REQ]uest.
Just as pistachio said, OT is definitely "ON topic" and not "off topic." But there has been long debate over the years over what exactly is meant by "on-topic" here. Indeed many have used it and still use it as a shorthand for nudity, because discretion is appreciated. For detailed information of that sort you can look up a movie at this site:

https://sensitivecontent.info/

However, since the early days FLM has broadened its view of what is topical. From the Posting Guidelines:
A film may or may not have partial or full nudity of some of its characters, adults and/or children. Inclusion of nudity - or the lack of it - does not determine whether any film is "On-Topic".
What is MOST important is that a film have significant screen time for children 16 or under. If it does not have children it is OFF topic. There may be one or two minutes of interesting scenes with children, but if children are not in the rest of the film then it is OFF topic. Sometimes a movie that looks like it has potential is found, then upon viewing it we find that it is seriously lacking in child content. So it gets moved to the Verified Off-Topic forum.

Great advice Night. It's also worth mentioning to new emule users to avoid other files on the network, and not be tempted to search and download files outside the links given here :thumbsup

Whaaaat, why not? ;)

Some trolls think it amusing to name and share fake files as something else. Sometimes you download what seems to be a perfectly ordinary movie and it turns out to be unrelated porn.

I think this is totally ridiculous because the most obscene content is readily available with very descriptive titles. Well, I am just assuming it is porn. Maybe they are just episodes of "Sesame Street" or "Care Bears" with fake disgusting titles, just to troll the perverts who are intrigued.

The advantage of using the files shared here is that usually a member has already downloaded and verified that the film is actually what it claims to be. They have already assumed any "risk" on behalf of everyone else. They help weed out the flawed and fake files.

But let us not overstate this risk: if I am looking for something, I will search in emule and on torrent sites, downloading anything until I get what I want. Most of the time a movie IS what it claims to be.
