[REL] Wilden Hühner, Die (2005)

Wilden Hühner, Die (2005)
This summer saw filming begin on the first adaptation of hit author Cornelia Funke's cult book series Die wilden Huehner (“The Wild Chicks”) by the German family entertainment specialists "par excellence" producer Uschi Reich and Bavaria Film.

The "Wild Chicks" are five girls aged between 11 and 12 who live on the edge of a city in North Germany and are inseparable best friends. They think Robbie Williams, Italian food, piano lessons, social engagement and their teacher Frau Rose (played by Veronica Ferres) are all cool, while their deadliest enemies are the gang of boys called the "Pygmies". All hell breaks loose one day when one of the Chicks learns that her grandma is planning to slaughter her chickens – the girls' beloved mascots!

"Originally, we had the idea of putting the adult world more into focus, but the charm of these books is that this world is seen through the Chicks' eyes and reflected in the girls' lives," Reich explains.

"Cornelia Funke writes such wonderful dialogues and the girls are so well characterized that we could take on a lot of lines of dialogue for the screenplay I wrote with Guezin Kar," she adds.

"I think Cornelia is a marvelous writer so it is no surprise for me that she is a cult author," Reich continues. "Cornelia saw the screenplay and gave her comments; we have also been in regular contact with her during the development and sent her the casting tapes."

While post-production work was set to be done back in Bavaria, principal photography was staged completely in North Rhine-Westphalia between Cologne and Xanten, in the Ruhr region and the Lower Rhine region. The choice of location made sense since Funke, whose international children's bestseller Tintenherz is set to be given the Hollywood big screen treatment by New Line, hails from this region. "The Chicks come from the big town, but the grandma (played by veteran German actress Doris Schade) lives in the countryside, so that is why we needed the wide, open, flat countryside that one can find in the Lower Rhine," Reich explains.

720p upgrade?

This is the first movie, where most of them think boys are yucky, they do NOT wear bikinis, and they are obsessed with saving livestock chickens from the soup kettle. I found a 720p TVrip on emule. Here are English uncorrected machine-translated subtitles and the original German subtitles:

Die wilden Hühner EN & DE subs.zip
|
(Yes, I actually do not mind the girls calling themselves the "wild chickens" instead of the "wild chicks"! Accurate translations be damned!)

720p German language:

:biggrin  Did you make this yourself? Cuz I must say, the translation looks most triumphant!

Excellent question! It's interesting, but yes and no. You probably already know this, pardon me if you do, and pardon me if I am wrong and full of crap. German is know to be incredibly consistent with its spelling, but it seems that writers with different native languages often get away with consistently substituting alternate letter combinations in place of certain accented German letters. I am not entirely sure if it's only outsiders who do this, but it does seem Germans usually maintain the accent marks.

So, sometimes you'll see with the ü, a ue is substituted. Of course this will flummox most searches. Don't just take my word for it. It seem to be English digraphs creeping in to other languages.

Another one often subbed out is the ß as you probably already know. Weiß and Scheiße are sometimes weiss and Scheisse. Sorry for my lack of German vocabulary. Alles klar?

Search emule for just "huehner" and you'll find this:

I got 6.1gb out of 7.71gb down. I'm still sourcing it if you like!

Actually another "A" member, Amadeus. But YES, that is totally from the second movie.
Oops :icon_1idiot If you're reading this, sorry Mr. Art.

Likewise, a blu-ray-rip torrent of all 3 films was totally dead.
Could that possibly be the torrents from blizzardkid?

It is confusing that the 1st and 2nd movies are in this thread and the 2nd and 3rd are in another thread. It is so intertwined that I would have a hard time properly splitting the posts, so I won't bother!
I've seen this on other REL threads. There have been instances where it's shifted the focus of the thread and confused a few members. It's kinda cool, keeps things interesting.

popdrome's lovely 1080p rips for the 2nd and 3rd are now available again complete:

Thanks! I'll check to see if they're any different or better than the other HD rips I've gathered.

1080p UPGRADE! (already)
I also upgraded the subtitles so they are more correct and more natural.

Thank you to pillowbaker for cluing me in to the blizzardkid files!

I could really relate to and appreciate Sprotte's grandma, she was awesome! What I found most appealing in this movie is how the girls came to learn that the boys were not always mean and yucky, and could be relied upon as helpful allies.

Newly corrected and synced to this version, English regular and SDH:
Die Wilden Hühner (2006) English & SDH.zip
|
1080p with German DTS 5.1 audio and optional internal German subtitles.
Optional external English regular and SDH subtitles.
