Jenseits der Stille (1996) AKA Beyond Silence

I'm surprised nobody commented on this film, because I think it's pretty good. Lara has become a very good clarinetist and has a chance at further study and a music career. Her aunt is trying to help her decide whether to always be tied to her parents' needs or to pursue her own life. Her father feels betrayed because for years Lara has been their only translator for the hearing world, he's afraid of losing her (like any parent), and because of a traumatic event between him and Lara's aunt when they were her age.
Since the earliest days in her childhood Lara has had a difficult but important task. Both her parents are deaf-mute and Lara has to translate from sign-language to the spoken word and vice versa when her parents want to communicate with other people. Getting older and more mature she becomes interested in music and starts to play clarinet very successfully. However her parents are deaf, they cannot share Lara's musical career. The day comes when Lara has to decide between her parents and her own ambitions.

I'm sure at one point this thread DID have quite a few comments.

When you see 'Release' written like this: [RREL], it means that this was one of the threads that were lost in the server changeover.

After FLM went with a new server a lot of threads disappeared. ghost went through and replaced many of the threads but there was no way to replace any comments that were lost along with them.. :(

As you stated, 'Beyond Silence' is a wonderful film, even 'beyond' the first 1/3 of the film [when Laura is still a child] after she has grown up.. :heart

kev.

I have this DVD; nice movie. "Nirgendwo in Afrika" from the same director is better in terms of OT, though.

[REL] Nirgendwo in Afrika (2001)

Bluray rips here:

I haven't tried to download them yet. The cover of this film looks very familiar, like I own the soundtrack on CD somewhere. I think maybe I'll grab this one.
