A pregnant teenage girl, Lo (Aleksa Palladino), keeps herself and her younger sister, Manny (Scarlett Johansson), roughly eleven, on the run so that this orphaned pair will not be separated and placed in homes with uncaring foster parents. When it becomes evident that Lo's motherhood is close, the girls hide out in an isolated cabin.

While preparing for their "retreat," a nurse working in a baby shop is encountered; impressed with her knowledge of infants, our young heroines opt to abduct her and force the woman to assist with the birth. Reluctant at first but eventually drawn to her new "family," the nurse is soon trying to help her friends in more ways than one. Trouble is, the always skeptical and paranoid Lo can't accept that an adult might indeed care for them. Can Manny bring this often conflicting pair together? A bit predictable, yes, but generally lots of fun with fine performances by the girls; recommended!
