By showing the reaction of the growing up girl for alcoholism of her father the director is reffering to more common and - maybe - more painful problem. That is the loneliness of the child, dealing with incomprehension in the family, in school. The author like experienced psychologist is showing the differences in concepts and valuation of the world by adoults and children. For Ann's mother the heavy drinking of her husband is nothing more than inconvenient indisposition. However for the girl it is the unequivocal symptom of the incurable disease so something horrible, something she is even frightened of thinking. Supporting roles are played by 8-year-old Beata Nowicka, 9-year-old Monika Szatynska, and 12-year-old Bozena Fedorczyk.

I finally managed to track down this alternate version, I'd seen clips from it before but never the whole thing. It's a better resolution than the one posted everywhere. Sadly, still no English subs though. If anyone has them please share!

Ok. I have just finished working on the Polish subtitles for this film.
Now I just need to figure out how to make this file available on the forum.

The translation of these subtitles from Polish to another language may cause difficulties in some passages.

The text contains several youth slang phrases from decades ago.

If anyone has a problem, I will try to help and explain the meaning of a word or phrase as much as possible.
