Thoughts on this film, deadman? story- and acting-wise? Topic-wise?

Um ... no.

But hey, the drive that it is on only has about 600 unwatched movies, and I just recently started saving files on the second of the subsequent 4tb drives SINCE then, so maybe it will reach the top of the queue soon!

I saw this years ago, pretty much when it first came out. rmt@36 hit the nail on the head when they said:

The story is a New Zealand version of Journey of Natty Gann...

I'd phrase it as a 'grittier' version of Natty Gann... (Starlight Hotel came out 2 years after The Journey of Natty Gann.) Greer Robson almost favors Meredith Salenger (as Natty Gann) in this film. Unfortunately my memory of it is sketchy which tends to mean (for me at least) that it wasn't very memorable... :think

I DO remember it's pacing was very Australian; slow, depending on dramatic tension and character revelations to move the story forward rather than drawn out action sequences.. ;)

(SIDE NOTE:
Greer Robson had a much smaller role [but none-the-less pivotal and captivating] as :heart 'Georgie' :heart :heart in a favorite movie of mine that is also here at FLM: Smash Palace (1981) [New Zealand].)

Bottom line: Starlight Hotel (what drifters and hobos call it when you're sleeping outside, under the stars) is worth a watch if you want a nice story. Greer Robson is a cute (though tomboyish here), talented actress and alone is reason enough to see this movie.. Not the most memorable film, but I don't think you'll be sorry you watched it..

*sigh* I guess I didn't give you much REAL information on the actual film, but I hope this post helps someone..
