In the European contries, on the contrary to bigot USA, there is normal, when small girls (say, to 10 yo) use no upper part of bathing dress. For this reason, the "topless" scene needs no explanation - simply two chidren are bathing in the brook - organic part of the summer holidays. They talk about first Soviet sputniks and about fact, that year 1961 reads eqally from the both sides - lower and upper. Full of optimism of those years, so sucesfull for Russia.
