CVMC wrote:This epic film follows a male from about four to twenty years of age. Approximately the first third places him at about ten and shows him (1) addressing the death of his father, (2) thereafter living and interacting with his stepmother and (3) engaging in a game of doctor with a neighboring female peer, who will later become his wife. As an older teen and young adult, our hero (1) explores homosexuality, (2) searches for a father-figure and (3) deepens his relationship with the aforementioned female peer. A masterpiece directed by Kiriro Urayama; highly recommended!

there are actually two different films called Seishun no mon ( made in years 1975 and 1981)... the one that CVMC describes is the 1975, which seems to be this one...

IMDB wrote:Mainly the story of Shinsuke and his stepmother, ranging from Shinsuke's infanthood to his mid-teens. Coal workers and the mines dominate nearly every aspect of the life of the characters. Shinsuke's father dies while bravely using dynamite to rescue a group of trapped Korean miners. Several older men attempt to help he and his mother cope, including a kind Korean and a Harley-riding yakuza. Written by Sharptongue
