Rule is correct, it was one of the goals of FLM to preserve movies that would otherwise have been lost, I think it's done an excellent job in that regard; if only from the viewpoint of the girls lol Youtube and streaming aren't the best for long term storage. I agree FLM should stay primarily ed2kPhuzzy4242 wrote:I know, but we still have the "it's nit a [REL]ease without an ed2k link rule, and it's super easy and very fast to download from YouTube, I just go ahead and do it.

Re: [REL] Lemon Incest (1984)
Unfortunately I see it going away in the (near?) future as more and more people lose the ability to forward ports for highid when their ISP's put everyone into a pool instead of assigning individual IP addresses. ISP's have to do this because the IPv4's are running out - every damn appliance on the planet is now connected to the internet, and the people who do it are stupid as hell. First is the loss of privacy when the built-in cameras and microphones can be turned on even when the device is turned off. Then there are the refrigerators, furnaces, and air conditioners that the power company can shut off remotely. Nice to come home to a freezer with 50 kilos of spoiled food.
I don't know whether some programmer will figure out a way to fix the highid issue but they'd better not take too long about it.

What I do not understand about this is ... with more and more people connected 24 hours a day, and as you say their appliances as well, how does putting them in a pool of IP addresses help the ISPs? If their IP is in constant use anyway, why not simply let them keep using the same IP since they are never even going to surrender its use and make it available to someone else?Phuzzy4242 wrote:Unfortunately I see it going away in the (near?) future as more and more people lose the ability to forward ports for highid when their ISP's put everyone into a pool instead of assigning individual IP addresses.
I am currently able to port-forward with a fixed IP and HighId, but my bandwidth capability is so low that I don't think my ISP even notices me. But since I eMule nearly 24 hours a day, I don't see how my ISP could "benefit" by forcing me to use a random IP address. What am I not understanding here?
My plan of permanent individual IP addresses should be of great interest to the police and FBI.
Re: [REL] Lemon Incest (1984)
Due to the limited number of available IP addresses (IPv4), more and more ISPs are using multi level NAT topologies. Eg. in a single level NAT, your ISP gives you a public IP address, and all your devices that are connected to your (ISP provided) router use the same public IP address. Some ISPs, especially in third world countries, are taking this a step further, and using ISP level NAT, where many subscriber routers are connected to a big router, and only that router has a public IP address. So to fix lowID issues, port forwarding has to be done on BOTH routers, but only the one at your premises is under your control. For the other one, your ISP has to do the port forwarding. Fat chance of that happening.

Re: [REL] Lemon Incest (1984)
The only solution which springs to mind involves a private ed2k server which only caters to our files and actively supports LowID users. This is no easy task, as some way has to be found to prevent picking up unwanted users via server exchange (even booting them out will seem like a DDoS attack ).Phuzzy4242 wrote:I don't know whether some programmer will figure out a way to fix the highid issue but they'd better not take too long about it.
We could also create Kad nodes that help interconnect our members. I know even less about Kad than I do about ed2k servers, so this is way outside my comfort zone.

emuler, I did some intense reading of your post and the provided link, and finally a light bulb came on over my head. It is only 15 watts incandescent, but I think I understand now. Thank you.

Re: [REL] Lemon Incest (1984)
I think ed2k will eventually just peter out until there are only a few die-hard users like us and the ones who use it for porn. That''ll also mean the servers go away from lack of interest, and lowid is finished at that point. I'm hoping someone comes up with something new to take its place - never underestimate ingenuity. Ahh, if only I was smarter instead of so darn good-looking...
Torrents have their place and so do direct downloads, and they'll probably be the go-to when eMule fades into the sunset. I want something as easy as eMule for all-in-one searching, downloading, and uploading. Sure, it's not as easy to set up as most but once it is, it's set-and-forget. The ease of uploading is probably its strongest asset. Dropping a file into a folder and clicking Update is as easy as it gets, while other methods can be a PITA.
So what's next? LimeWire 2021?

Not sure what you guys are talking about, I'll leave tech stuff to those who know more than I do
But I previously remember an interview with Charlotte and Serge together on live TV, and now I can't find a single interview with them together it's like they have all been wiped... interesting

The Chinese have come up with something, but it appears to be a closed community thing - the feature we want is available to subscribers. There is a client called Xunlei, developed by a company with the same name. It uses the thunder protocol.Phuzzy4242 wrote:So what's next? LimeWire 2021?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xunlei
Xunlei sets up its own storage servers to backup the files which are not active or shared any longer. This feature is named as High-Speed Channel and allows Xunlei users retrieve data faster than others. But only paying users have access to these servers and download files.

Sounds like cloud storage of your files. I will not do that. Period. Once out of your possession, you're subject to the whims of the host, along with coercion or punishment if you don't have approved political views, and I'm not talking about China.
