Set in 1903 Indiana, "So Dear to My Heart" tells the story of Jeremiah Kincaid (Bobby Driscoll) and his quest to raise his "champion" lamb, Danny (named for the famed race horse, Dan Patch, who is also portrayed in the film). Jeremiah's dream of showing Danny at the Pike County Fair must overcome the obstinate objections of his loving, yet strict, grandmother Granny (Beulah Bondi). Jeremiah's confidant, Uncle Hiram (Burl Ives), is the boy's steady ally, and his pretty little cousin, Tildy (Luana Patten), joins him in this wholesome, family tale.

Yep - that's right - wholesome. This is a sweet and innocent, old-fashioned movie, which may be considered by today's cynical standards as far too twee and saccharine to be properly enjoyed. For what it's worth, this has been a longtime favorite of mine, and the re-pairing of the two child actor's featured in Disney's "Song of the South," makes this well worth the bandwidth and drive space. This is a boy-centered film, and 10 year-old Bobby Driscoll does an impressive job of carrying the story from beginning to end (with a memorable assist from his 9 year-old co-star, Luana Patten).

But, of course, the main attraction for FLM is the stunning, little green-eyed beauty, Luana:
