[REL] Clan of the Cave Bear AKA Cro Magnon (1986)
Re: [REL] Clan of the Cave Bear AKA Cro Magnon (1986)
Thanks, all. Got to go for the subs.
Why do I keep thinking of Caveman (1981) whenever this film crosses my mind? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082146/

Given this was only a low-res AVI encode, can anyone post the DVD source? I'm seeing a few DVD's are available from different regions.

Fairly speedy PAL DVD9 5.3Gb torrent, and the only one of 5 that got more than 3.8% -- and also completed:

I converted it to an ISO & MDS, and hope I did not muck it up.
Direct-download:English 5.1 or Russian audio.
RU, SV, NO, FI subtitles.
Use uploaded MDS file for burning a disc.

Have done a DVD upscale of this.
pushed it to 1080p (though 720p might have been fine) as the DVD had quite good detail + was anamorphic. Came out as only 2.2gb. Will upload later. I've dropped the Russian audio to make the file smaller (not a russian file). Kept only the English audio.

Here's the links (5x 450mb) - if someone can share into Emule.
Thanks to Night for sharing the DVD rip.

Thanks for your upscale, David.
I don't think that this movie gets better with increasing the picture quality. But maybe we have some Daryl Hannah fans here...

That's one of the reasons I wanted it. There's a funny film with Steve Martin and her called Roxanne. There's also probably a very young Nicole Eggert of Baywatch in this - but not sure which character is her. Anyone know? Nicole Elizabeth Eggert (born January 13, 1972 according to Wikipedia. So probably 13 when this film was made.
Re: [REL] Clan of the Cave Bear AKA Cro Magnon (1986)
I showed all 3 blondes playing the same character, Ayla, at different ages: Emma Floria, Nicole Eggert, and Daryl Hannah. Also the legendary Bart the Bear, who gave his greatest performance a few years later in Jean-Jacques Annaud's The Bear (1988).
The two younger blondes only get about 15 minutes each of screen time, and then it is Daryl for the rest of the movie. Even though I like Daryl, I would have liked more time for the younguns.
My favorite Daryl Hannah movie will always be "Blade Runner". I love her attempt to crush Harrison Ford's skull with her thighs while ripping off his nose. Damn, that was sexy!
I remember well how much the critics shat upon CotCB when it came out, and I never bothered to watch it until a few years ago because I was happy enough to watch Ringo Starr to get my Caveman fix. Neither film is a classic in the officially approved sense of the term, but they are both immensely more entertaining than so much of the boring crap that critics love.
Thank you David! Your upscale also has the advantage of taking up much less drive space than the DVD9.

Re: [REL] Clan of the Cave Bear AKA Cro Magnon (1986)
The main reason I searched out the DVD was my hope that David would do an upscale. Now it is on eMule for people who just do not like fast MEGA downloads.
It was less than two weeks ago that I last watched this, but I still enjoyed watching it again! Only recently I found out that supposedly the original theatrical viewings included subtitles for the Neanderthal-talk and the caveman version of sign-language invented for the movie. Well, now I do not feel quite so stupid for not being able to figure out most of it, even though the story was clear enough without subtitles. There is also a separate "full" English subtitle that includes the occasional narration. (Taking the place of the author's voice, as this was based on a book.)
English subtitles, two versions: |
1080p with English narration & the caveman-speech:

FLM DISCLAIMER: Remember, the two younger girls are only in the first 30 minutes. After that it switches to the "old lady" Daryl Hannah. It was less than two weeks ago that I last watched this, but I still enjoyed watching it again! Also recommended for your Caveman/Prehistory fix is La guerre du feu aka Quest for Fire. Very well thought out and entertaining movie.
Many thanks for the upscale, David, and thank you night for putting it on emule
